Gaga promised her fans that she was pouring everything she had into the disc and when it arrived, complete with a series of trippy, provocative videos that also pushed the envelope, they couldn’t have asked for any more from their Mother Monster.

Frequent musical collaborator producer Fernando Garibay said the recognition from the Recording Academy was a nice cherry-topper to a year of hard, hard work. “We worked on this album for so long and it was like our baby so it was more about if the fans would love it; that was the most important thing.,” he told MTV News. “But of course, nominations, yeah, that’s cool.”

The first full-length effort from Gaga since her rise to international stardom, Born This Way allowed the singer to exorcise some demons, comment on her newfound fame and, of course, create the kind of over-the-top tracks that would lend themselves to equally eye-popping live performance.

“This album was the most personal, the amount of detail that went into this record, the amount of passion and emotion from her and the team,” Garibay said. “We all followed her lead on this, on every song … how intense every avenue of making this record was for us, protecting the record, creative, conceptually, every song was a story towards the Born This Way theme.”

The video for the title track took the Best Female Video and Best Video With a Message at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. “At that point, we had been shooting the movie for two months, two-and-a-half months, and the amount of things that we were asked to do that we were just like ‘All right,’” Aniston said. “At that point, that was like putting on my shoes.”

The duo share the experience of onscreen skin, a fact Aniston felt compelled to share. “You’ve shown your butt,” she said to Rudd.

“Many times,” he replied.

“And onscreen as well,” Aniston joked. “In the makeup chair, he always never had clothes on.”

“I had to get dressed for the shots,” Rudd replied. “But when we weren’t shooting, I was hanging brain, as it were.”

For Aniston, nudity has to matter for where the character is heading in the story, and a crazy, purposeless nude scene would never work. “I think it depends on what the movie is. It felt like it would be gratuitous to do that in a movie like this and it would be more distracting from the movie and what was happening to the character,” she explained. “It would all be about, ‘Oh, you’re naked, so it’s boobs onscreen,’ so it would totally lose the fun and the empowering moment [my character], Linda, was having in that scene.”

One of Aniston’s co-stars, however, does show a fair amount of skin, even if he’s wearing a prosthetic penis.

“Joe Lo Truglio, the first night he came out with his prosthetic penis, within five minutes we were all touching it,” Aniston revealed. “We were touching it, and we were examining it. It was just so interesting. It was just right there, underneath it. I think first night of shooting, I could resist, there was the beginning of many, many butt slaps.”

Though Clooney’s well-known political affiliations and beliefs stood in the foreground, the man himself took more of a backseat, limiting his onscreen role to a few keys scenes.

During awards season, the film made a small mark, after debuting to only mildly positive reviews. It did, however, take a spot on the National Board of Review’s top 10 of the year and earned four Golden Globes nominations, including Best Picture (Drama) and Best Director.

In “The Descendants,” Clooney took a familiar spot as leading man, but the role of Matt King required him to be anything but his usual model of suave confidence. As a soon-to-be widow, Clooney fully adopted the dopey mantel of an Alexander Payne hero in the tradition of Paul Giamatti in “Sideways” and Matthew Broderick in “Election.”

But unlike his predecessors as a lead in one of Payne’s films, Clooney’s character remained almost entirely sympathetic throughout the film, thanks in large part to the believability of the acting. In the week leading up to Oscar night, Clooney stands neck and neck with fellow nominee Jean Dujardin as the favorite. It would be Clooney’s second win for acting, his first coming in 2006 as supporting actor in Stephen Gaghan’s “Syriana.”

However Sunday’s ceremony might shake out for Clooney, he has proven himself a mainstay for the Academy Awards, and ? whether he’s acting, directing, writing or producing ? someone who will continue to appear on shortlists for years to come.
